South Limburg is the perfect region to enjoy a drink or lunch overlooking the greenery. From castles and windmills to vineyards and hilltops, the terraces in this southern part of the Netherlands are often as special as the landscape around them. In this blog, we tip the most beautiful natural terraces in South Limburg, where tranquility, atmosphere and views come together.
1. Elsloo Castle - terrace overlooking the valley.
Bar Bistro Dorine's terrace is located on the edge of the Elsloër Stroomvallei nature reserve. You look out over the treetops and hear the babbling brook in the background. A place where you can rest perfectly after a walk with a Limburg wine or lunch.
2. Limbricht Castle - atmospheric and historic
The terrace of Kasteel Limbricht is located in the courtyard of this centuries-old castle. Surrounded by old walls, towers and trees, here you will enjoy peace and quiet, good service and burgundy dishes. There are regular markets or live music.
3. Hompesche Molen - waterfront terrace.
In Stevensweert is the Hompesche Molen, the highest mill in Limburg. The accompanying terrace is in the middle of nature, right on the water. Ideal as a stopover for cyclists and hikers. Don't forget to taste the local mill beer: the Graaf van Hompes.
4. Domain Holset - wine terrace in the Hill Country
Atop a hill near Lemiers is Domain Holset, a wine estate with panoramic views. On the terrace you can taste sparkling wines from homegrown wines, accompanied by small bites. A hidden gem.
