Right next to the tower of Elsloo Castle lies a special green world: the botanical gardens of IVN Elsloo. A place where peace, knowledge, and nature come together, and where you can wander at your leisure among plants, herbs, and trees with a story to tell.
The garden covers approximately one hectare and consists of various themed gardens and an arboretum. Here you will find plants from different parts of the world, from fragrant herbs and shrubs to unusual trees and bushes. Each season has its own character, making every visit different.
The themed gardens are arranged around the theme 'The power of plants and herbs through the ages'. During a walk, you will discover how plants were used in everyday life in the past, for food and medicine, and what role they played throughout history.
The botanical gardens are maintained by an enthusiastic team of volunteers. With great care and dedication, they maintain the garden and are happy to share their knowledge with visitors, for example through explanations in the garden and a garden guide.
IVN Elsloo exchanges seeds with other botanical gardens, both in the Netherlands and abroad. This collaboration contributes to biodiversity and makes the garden in Elsloo part of an international network.
The botanical garden is open to visitors at fixed times during the growing season. In addition, there are times when volunteers are working in the garden and visitors are welcome to take a look. The current opening hours and visiting times are communicated via the IVN Elsloo website.
